Fútbol Andaluz

ESPN´s Spanish League writer, Eduardo Álvarez, has just posted this piece about the strong showing of Andalucía´s handful of teams in the first division as of late. The history lesson at the beginning is pretty useless, but the rest of the article is worth reading.

It should be noted that, while Sevilla FC is third in the league rankings, this position is miraculous. Their coach makes all the wrong moves, and the team has been eliminated from the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Cup continental tournement at the hands of theoretically far inferior teams.  Strikers Frederic Kanouté and Jesús Navas, and keeper Andrés Palop might as well run the team, as they seem to be the only players who have a clear purpose and solid execution. It will be a long time before this team (by far the best in Andalucía, in spite of its many flaws), truly reaches the level of FC Barcelona or Real Madrid, the perennial benchmarks of infalliable football.
